6th Workshop on Longitudinal Diagnostics for Free Electron Lasers

Event Details

The workshop aims to bring together scientists and engineers working in the field of longitudinal diagnostics for future accelerators to strengthen close collaborations in the fields of longitudinal beam instrumentation, detector development, and data acquisition.

Other than the first session on the status of the facilities, sessions are organised as 'Speed Poster Sessions': authors are asked to present their contribution as a poster, size ISO A0. Refreshments will be available during the poster talks. Before the session, each author may 'advertise' his/her poster with a few slides (max. 4 minutes).

The scientific programme will be hosted on the Desy Indico site found here.

A working session on ‘big challenges and novel solutions’ will be held on Thursday. Groups will be formed to discuss one of several pre-set diagnostic challenges, which will be emailed to participants prior to the workshop. The groups will aim to outline potential physics or engineering solutions to these challenges, as well as discuss opportunities for future collaborations to progress these ideas. Each group will report their progress in the final plenary session on Friday.

For example, one challenge will be: "How can we measure the slice parameters of a 1 fs electron bunch?"

Proposed Session Titles:

  • Session 1: Facility Report and Overview
  • Session 2: Laser Synchronization & Fiber Laser Systems
  • Session 3: THz-Detector Characterization &  THz-Spectrometers
  • Session 4: Synchrotron Radiation Monitoring , Split Ring Resonator Experiments & New Topic: THz Acceleration and Deflection
  • Session 5: Electro-Optic Diagnostics
